The Casa Nova story began in 1991, when husband and wife team John and Ilda Medeiros with their three children relocated from Ontario to Victoria BC to open a Portuguese restaurant. After years of working in several restaurants and catering businesses, the time had come to establish their craft in delicious Portuguese and North American cuisine and finally call Victoria BC their “New Home”. It was then that the name Casa Nova or “new home” was born, bringing tasty Portuguese cuisine to the people of Victoria BC.

The popularity of the family run restaurant soon grew and they were booking private functions that filled their restaurant to capacity. The catering aspect of the Casa Nova business was a natural progression in order to accommodate the ever increasing demand for their tasty food.

Over the years, Casa Nova Catering morphed from catering small banquets into providing full catering and decorating services to functions of over 900 people. The increased business was in large part from word of mouth by their happy customers.

In 2000, Casa Nova Cafe opened in Victoria’s bustling downtown core serving up delicious meals to the working crowd.

The Portuguese are world famous for their fine wines and their succulent seafood dishes but one main piece of the puzzle was missing from John’s endeavour to bring the taste of Portugal to Victoria. In October 2008, that long awaited missing piece emerged in Vic West as Casa Nova Bakery Cafe opened its doors to the public with freshly baked Portuguese buns, bread and pastries.
